Have you ever tried to read one of the literary, lengthy, and loved classics but could not quite stick with it? The Whale of a Tale Book Group might be just the program for you. This book group will convene twice per year over eight or nine weeks and read a "big book" together in small bits and meet once per week (on Zoom) to discuss it. The idea is to break the book up a bit and keep each other on track to finish it. The first book was chosen by the three participating libraries sponsoring the program but future books will be chosen by group consensus. The first book to be read is The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas. Set between 1625 and 1628, the book recounts the adventures of a young man named d'Artagnan after he leaves home to travel to Paris, hoping to join the Musketeers of the Guard. Although d'Artagnan is not able to join this elite corps immediately,

he is befriended by three of the most formidable musketeers of the age – Athos, Porthos and Aramis, "the three musketeers" or "the three inseparables" – and becomes involved in affairs of state and at court. This enduring classic has romance, swashbuckling heroics, cliffhangers and absurdities combined to make for an engaging story. Anyone is welcome to join the group. If you are interested, but do not have access to Zoom, it is possible to meet with the group through one of libraries organizing this event. (Manawa, Scandinavia and Waupaca).
